Visiting Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Phnom Penh is a place that has many different faces. Exploring the place offers many possibilities to any tourist, whether you are traveling on a shoestring budget or you are option for a more luxurious type of accommodation to stay at.

The Royal Palace with is glistening spires is a sight to behold, as well as the beautiful banks of the Mekong river. At the same time the city is a busy bustling place with many markets, busy traffic and life everywhere you look. The National Museum offers insight into the history of art and the development of the area and the Tuol Sleng museum shows you the history and trauma of the past. Angkor Wat is the spiritual center and heart of Cambodia and is a definite must-see on any trip to the region. There is a range of amazing temples spread out over an area of about 200 square kms. These temples are considered to be one of the richest features in the history of worldwide archaeology. Angkor Wat is just one example of these beautifully built temples. Exploring the other temples in the well-known Angkor complex will leave you astounded.

Also make sure to plan a visit to the Silver Pagoda. This part of the structure of the Royal Palace, constructed with 5000 silver floor tiles, makes for great photo opportunities. The tall dome of Psar Thmei, with its art deco features, can be found by the Phnom Penh central market area. Make sure to enjoy some great street food during your visit!

Make sure to pay a visit to one of the great restaurants and many bars in the BKK1 area. From the New York style “Love” bar, offering classy surroundings and a place to meet expats and fellow travelers, to more traditional bars, this area really comes alive at night.
